22-Day East Africa Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe, Uganda

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where you will meet your driver-guide and begin your East African adventure.

Transfer to your hotel for overnight accommodation and a safari briefing in preparation for the journey ahead.

Overnight: Entebbe.

Day 2: Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, drive to Lake Mburo National Park.

Upon arrival, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Mburo, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, birds and other wildlife along the shoreline.

Dinner and overnight at your camp or lodge near the lake.

Day 3: Lake Mburo to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, depart Lake Mburo and drive towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Continue to Buhoma and arrive in the afternoon. Relax at your accommodation and receive a briefing about your upcoming gorilla trekking experience.

Overnight: Bwindi area.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Today is one of the highlights of your East Africa Safari.

Spend the day trekking through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with experienced park rangers in search of mountain gorillas.

The trek can take several hours depending on the location of the gorilla family you are visiting and the forest conditions.

Return to your accommodation after the trek.

Overnight: Bwindi area.

Day 5: Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and continue towards the Ishasha sector.

Enjoy an afternoon game drive if time permits. Ishasha is known for its beautiful scenery and tree-climbing lions.

Overnight: Ishasha.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Spend the day exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Enjoy wildlife viewing as you travel through the park towards the Mweya area. Look for elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos, antelopes and numerous bird species.

Your accommodation is located near the Kazinga Channel.

Overnight: Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth to Kibale National Park

After an early breakfast, drive to Kibale National Park with a packed lunch.

On clear days, enjoy views of the Rwenzori Mountains along the route.

Depending on park regulations and trekking schedules, enjoy a chimpanzee trekking experience and return to your accommodation in the evening.

Overnight: Kibale Forest area.

Day 8: Kibale to Masindi

After breakfast, begin the journey towards Masindi, the gateway to Murchison Falls National Park.

This is a longer driving day, so you will spend the night in Masindi before continuing into the park.

Overnight: Masindi.

Days 9 & 10: Murchison Falls National Park

Spend two days exploring Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda's largest national park.

Activities can include game drives, a boat trip towards the base of Murchison Falls, a boat trip towards the Lake Albert Delta, and a hike to the top of the falls.

Look for elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, antelopes and abundant birdlife.

Overnight: Murchison Falls area.

Day 11: Murchison Falls to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, drive towards Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Enjoy the opportunity to see southern white rhinos in their protected environment.

Overnight: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Day 12: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to Jinja

Begin the day with a guided rhino tracking experience.

Afterwards, continue towards Jinja, passing through Kampala along the way.

Jinja offers several optional activities, including adventures along the Nile, which can be arranged depending on your interests.

Overnight: Jinja.

Day 13: Jinja, Uganda to Kisumu, Kenya

After breakfast, begin your journey to Kenya through the Busia border.

Complete the Uganda exit and Kenya entry procedures before continuing to Kisumu.

This is a long travel day of approximately 8–9 hours depending on road and border conditions.

Arrive in Kisumu and relax at your hotel.

Overnight: Kisumu.

Day 14: Kisumu to Masai Mara

After breakfast, drive towards the Masai Mara National Reserve with a packed lunch.

The journey is approximately 285 km and takes around 4–5 hours, depending on road conditions.

Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive and begin exploring one of Kenya's most famous wildlife destinations.

Overnight: Masai Mara.

Day 15: Full-Day Masai Mara Safari

Enjoy a full day exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve.

With a picnic lunch in the reserve, spend the day searching for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other wildlife.

Overnight: Masai Mara.

Day 16: Masai Mara to Serengeti, Tanzania

After breakfast, drive towards the Isebania border between Kenya and Tanzania.

Complete the necessary immigration and customs procedures before continuing into Tanzania.

Depending on the season, your Serengeti route can be adjusted. During the July–October migration period, the itinerary may focus on Northern Serengeti. During other periods, Central Serengeti may be more suitable.

Enjoy a game drive en route to your camp.

Overnight: Serengeti National Park.

Day 17: Full-Day Serengeti Safari

Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti National Park.

Enjoy game drives from sunrise to sunset while searching for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and wildebeest.

The exact area explored will depend on wildlife movements and the season.

Overnight: Serengeti.

Day 18: Serengeti to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, continue towards Central Serengeti with an en-route game drive.

Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way while experiencing the changing landscapes of the Serengeti.

Continue to your accommodation in the evening.

Overnight: Central Serengeti.

Day 19: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater and Karatu

After breakfast, drive towards the Ngorongoro Crater.

Enjoy a full-day crater game drive, where you may see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and, with luck, the endangered black rhino.

In the late afternoon, drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Karatu.

Day 20: Karatu to Tarangire National Park and Arusha

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park.

Enjoy a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch in the park. Tarangire is particularly famous for its elephants, baobab trees and diverse wildlife.

After the afternoon game drive, continue to Arusha for overnight accommodation.

Overnight: Arusha.

Day 21: Arusha to Amboseli National Park, Kenya

After breakfast, drive towards Amboseli National Park through the Namanga border.

Complete immigration and customs procedures before continuing into Kenya.

Arrive in Amboseli in time for an afternoon and evening game drive, with spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro when weather conditions are clear.

Overnight: Amboseli.

Day 22: Amboseli to Nairobi

Depending on your departure flight time, enjoy an early morning game drive in Amboseli.

After breakfast or lunch, begin the drive to Nairobi and transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure flight.

 Verified Amazing Safari Experience
We went on a 5 day safari with Nature Excursions and Castor in April 2026. We had an amazing time and saw all the wildlife we could have hoped for. Castor was very hospitable and cared for us very well and made sure we had everything we could need during the safari, such as water, fanta/coke, food and a child seat for our 5-year-old son who also truly enjoyed the safari adventure. Castor had put together a tour that included Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and Ndutu. This was a perfect mixture with close up elephant encounters in Tarangire, lions, rhinoceros, zebras, wildebeest and more in Ngorongoro Crater, and giraffe, leopards and cheetahs in Serengeti and Ndutu. Castor had arranged accommodation in hotels and in tented camps which was a good mixture of adventure and clean and comfy relaxation. We can highly recommend doing your safari with Castor, he is very professional and experienced, went out of his way to find animals and accommodate all our needs. He is very open and friendly and also helped us find what we needed in Arusha after the Safari.

We've been on several safaris in multiple African countries, but we returned to Tanzania and once again, to Nature Excursion Safaris, because of the abundance of wildlife and the tremendous guide skills of Castor! He did not disappoint! The itinerary that he planned, which included Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and Ndutu, along with his amazing ability to locate the most elusive of wildlife exceeded my high expectations! Castor was very kind and accomodating to our last minute change in itinerary. Due to airline issues, we had to push our start date by 2 weeks and Castor rearranged our itinerary and experienced no issues. He also customized the tours based on our requests. The car is comfortable and standard other safari cars we saw on our tour. The car was equipped with a fridge and well stocked with water, coke, fanta and juice. Castor also methodically arranged our meals to accommodate our allergies, two of the chefs made a dish specifically for us. He goes the extra mile to make us feel comfortable and at ease. We saw many animals during our safari days and Castor kindly points them out to us. He can also spot animals that are very far and well hidden, I don't know how he spots them while driving at the same time. In our other tours in Zanzibar the guides kept pushing for us to buy additional tours/packages despite us saying no and we felt that had to keep our guards up and it took away from the Zanzibar experience a little. Castor did not do that at all and we felt at least during our whole tour.

Castor’s service during the 7-day safari through the Masai Mara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro was outstanding. The vehicle was comfortable, always clean, and stocked with fresh water. The itinerary was very well organized, with an excellent selection of lodges and camps. Castor showed deep knowledge of wildlife, explaining each sighting clearly and enthusiastically. He impressed us with his ability to spot animals from great distances and his constant attention to our well-being.  Verified 6-day, 5-night Tanzania+Kenya safari with Castor
We booked a 6-day, 5-night hotel safari with Castor from Nature Excursion Safaris, and overall, our experience was mostly very positive. What impressed us most about Castor and his service were: 1. Castor is very nice, honest, and reliable. All arrangements were made via online chat, and everything promised was exactly delivered — no bluffing or excuses. What we agreed on was what we actually got. 2. The vehicle provided was in excellent condition. It had a distinctive green exterior and was well-maintained inside with amenities such as tissues, a trash bin, and charging ports. During the entire 5 days in Tanzania, the car had no mechanical issues. 3. We chose a mid-to-upper range hotel safari package. Compared to other agencies offering similar itineraries and accommodations, Castor’s price was more affordable — about $2400 USD per person, which made the trip very good value. However, on the last day in Kenya, Castor handed us over to a local Kenya guide, and unfortunately, that part of the safari was very disappointing. The vehicle was old and lacked basic comforts such as water, a fridge, binoculars, or even a trash bin — it felt more like an empty taxi than a proper safari vehicle. More seriously, about 40 minutes after leaving the border on the C103 road, the Kenya guide’s car broke down, and we were stranded on the road for over an hour. During this time, the driver left without explanation to find help and disappeared, leaving the four of us alone with three Maasai strangers without prior notice. This made us feel quite anxious and unsafe. While we highly recommend Castor and Nature Excursion Safaris for the Tanzania portion of the trip, potential travelers should be aware of the Kenya side’s arrangements and communicate clearly with Castor regarding who will be guiding and the quality of vehicles provided.

 Verified Amazing safari adventure
Castor organised a bespoke trip from Nairobi to Arusha visiting the Masai Mara ,Serengeti,Ngorongoro crater and a cultural village tour. His communication in planning was excellent and he planned a fantastic trip for us. The safari surpassed all of our expectations , we stayed in great hotels,lodges and a tented camp all excellent. He is an excellent guide driving us safely on dreadful roads and searching out animals to give us amazing close encounters of tons of animals including all big 5 throughout the trip. He has great knowledge of the animals and birds if the Serengeti and very interesting. I highly recommend a trip with Castor ours was amazing just sad it's finished!
