Ngorongoro Highland – Embakai Crater and Lake Natron Trekking    

If real want to take off-beaten track adventure on foot through volcanic landscapes of northern Tanzania Ngorongoro highland trekking is the best, you will walk to impossible area where car cant reach, it is very familiar to combine this trip with normal safari circuit in northern Tanzania, Normally starts after Ngorongoro crater game drive or you can start from Karatu town in order to fit your itinerary.You will accompany by Masai guide to experience the lives of masai tribe,  you will start at Embakai crater cross rift valley wall with spectacular view of Ol-doinyo Lengai then will finish at Lake Natron. This trekking will give you the all above greatest sceneries not found elsewhere on earth.                                    

4 Days Ngorongoro highland Trekking. 

The itinerary Trek to Embakai Crater, Cross Rift Valley Wall on Foot, Then to Lake Natron.

Day1. Arusha – Mto wa Mbu to Olmoti Crater.

Picked up in the morning from your hotel in Arusha town, take a road through mto wa mbu village which is found under the rift valley wall, cross the escarpment of Great Rift Valley, stop at the view point of lake Manyara, A short ahead driving about 30km will reach the gate of Ngrongoro, the rough road begin heading up to Ngorongoro, stop at the view point of the Ngorongoro crater, then proceed to the masai village of Nainokanoka, off-load the camping equipments, while the cook setting up the camp, you will hike to the olmoti crater this late afternoon, accompany by game ranger, visit the small waterfall, back to the camp for overnight.  The altitude of this place is 2650 m.

Day2. Olmoti Crater to Embakai Crater.

Trip will begin at Embakai crater, whereby the road ends, today you will hike to the floor of this seldom visited volcanic crater home of flamingoes and various animals in the forest it is about 45 to an hour descending time, enjoy the view of the crater lake, ascend from the crater will take you about 1.5 to 2 hours, then have an overnight at the top of the crater where we set-up your private camp made by tents. The altitude of the area is 3500 m.   

Day3.Embakai to Naiyobi Acacia Camp.

 This day in the morning, the crews will break-down the tents, The Maasai transport (Donkey) and masai guys who will lead the donkey will be read waiting and loading the camping equipments, hike to the masai village Naiyobi by following the good path, the active mountain Ol-Doinyo Lengai at your face seen closely, the landscape becomes drier and warmer, we will camping at Acacia Camp for overnight. 

Day4. Naiyobi Acacia Camp to Lake Natron and Ol-Doinyo Lengai Mountain.

It is the downhill trekking journey it is not long walking but very impressive day, the trekking down crossing the rift valley leads you to dry and hot rift valley, the countryside looks almost surreal, covered by grey ash of volcanic erupted in 2007. Arrive at the bottom of rift valley around 11am, your driver and vehicle will be waiting to pick you and transfer to the camp for lunch if your trip has an extension of Safari, if it is the last day of the trip, your drive will drive you to mto wa mbu for hot lunch in the finest hotel before driving back to Arusha.  

5Days Ngorongoro Highland Trekking Olmoti and Embakai Craters to Lake Natron

In the Morning your masai guide and donkeys will be ready to start the journey, after breakfast breakdown the tents then load camping equipments to the donkey, start trekking pass to masai traditional Bomas, wild animals on the way will be seen, you will walk about 16 km when will arrive at the camp near the Bulati Village.

Day3. Bulati to Embai Crater.  

After breakfast, the journey proceed up-hills, the panoramic view of the grass plain is below, continue to down through the bushy landscape, the Ol-odonyo lengai mountain will be opening up in front of you, the trek gives you the great view of the volcano active mountain ol-doinyo lengai and embakai crater, you can explore the crater today or the next day, this crater is alkaline soda lake which is important food source for flamingoes which are found here throughout the year, the camp will be at the rim of the crater. 

Day4.Embakai to Naiyobi Acacia Camp.
