6 Days Kilimanjaro Climbing – Rongai Route
6 days Kilimanjaro climbing via Rongai Route is one of the easiest routes with a higher success rate. This route is less crowded than any other route of Kilimanjaro. The trek starts on the north side of Kilimanjaro Mountain, just south of the Kenyan Border, and is one of the least traveled routes to the summit. After the summit, you will descend down the Marangu Route, located on the south side of the Mountain.
Day 0: Arrival and Drive to Moshi Town
On your arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, meet your transfer driver who will pick you up and drive to Moshi town in a hotel. After checking into your room, you will meet your Mountain guide who will brief you and check your mountain equipment. Dinner and overnight will be at Chanya Lodge.
Day 1: Moshi Hotel to Kilimanjaro Climbing Simba Camp
Your breakfast will be early in the morning. Thereafter, drive to the Rongai route at the Kilimanjaro gate, passing through Nale Moru Village. It will take about one and a half hours to reach the entry gate. After all formalities at the gate, including registration, the hike will start. Hike through the fields of maize and potatoes before entering the pine forest of Kilimanjaro Mountain. Elevation: 2000m to 2650m. Distance: 6km/3-4 Hours. Habitat: Montane Forest. Meals: Lunch & Dinner.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp
After breakfast, hike steadily up to the Second Cave with splendid views of Kibo summit and the Eastern ice field on the crater rim. Elevation: 2650m to 3450m. Distance: 6km/3-4 Hours. Habitat: Moorland. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Day 3: Second Cave to Third Cave Camp
Start climbing Kilimanjaro on day 3. After breakfast, hike from the Second Cave Camp to Third Cave Camp. Elevation: 3450m to 3880m. Distance: 9km/2-3 hours. Habitat: Semi-desert. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Day 4: Third Cave Camp to Kibo Hut Camp
After breakfast early in the morning, hike to the Kibo Hut, at the bottom of the Kibo crater wall. The rest of the day will be for relaxation, preparing for the summit at midnight. Elevation: 3880m to 4750m. Distance: 5km/3-4 hours. Habitat: Alpine desert. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Day 5: Kibo Hut Camp to Summit to Horombo Hut
Very early in the morning, at midnight to 2 am, start climbing to the summit on the steep and heavy scree or snow up to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim (elevation: 5700m). Ascend to Uhuru Peak, the highest point of the African Continent. After some time for pictures and celebration, descend to Kibo Camp for lunch, then continue to Horombo Hut for overnight. Elevation: 4750m to 5895m (summit), down to Horombo Camp 3700m. Distance: 6km up (6-8 hours), 15km down (6-8 hours). Habitat: Alpine desert. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Trail Head, Arusha Town Hotel
On the last day, after breakfast, descend slowly through moorland to the Mandara Hut point, and continue through the lush forest path to the exit gate at Marangu. Elevation: 3700m to 1700m.
