Day 1: Arusha to Mandara Huts
- Terrain: Rain Forest
- Elevation: 1830m to 2740m
- Distance: 7km (4-5 hours)
Start early with breakfast, then drive through Moshi town to Marangu gate at Kilimanjaro National Park. After permits are issued, begin trekking through the rainforest, enjoying the scenery and Kilimanjaro insights from your guide. Expect muddy and slippery conditions; gaiters and trekking poles are recommended.
Day 2: Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts
- Terrain: Moorland
- Elevation: 2740m to 3690m
- Distance: 11km (6-8 hours)
After breakfast, emerge from the rainforest and ascend through heathland into open moorlands dotted with small shrubs. Enjoy lunch halfway up with views of Mawenzi, arriving at Horombo Huts in the late afternoon.
Day 3: Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts
- Terrain: Semi-Desert
- Elevation: 3690m to 4695m
- Distance: 10km (6-8 hours)
After breakfast, continue through dwindling heathland into a moonscape as you enter the saddle connecting Mawenzi and Kibo. Have lunch at the saddle and prepare for the summit climb starting in a few hours.
Day 4: Kibo Huts to Summit, then to Horombo Huts
- Terrain: Glacier/Snowcapped Summit
- Elevation: 4695m to 5895m (Summit) and 3690m (Horombo Huts)
- Distance: 4km up (5-7 hours), 14km down (5-6 hours)
Begin at midnight, tackling the most challenging part of the trek. Ascend through heavy scree and possibly snow to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim. Faster hikers may see the sunrise from the summit. Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, then descend to Kibo Huts for lunch and continue to Horombo Huts for overnight.
Day 5: Horombo Huts to Marangu Gate, then to Moshi
- Terrain: Rain Forest
- Elevation: 3690m to 1830m (Mandara Huts) to 1387m (Marangu Gate)
- Distance: 18km (6-7 hours)
After breakfast, descend through the moorland to Mandara Huts for lunch, then continue down through lush forest to Marangu Gate. Sign out at the gate, then return to the hotel for certificate presentation and celebration. Book 5-day Kilimanjaro hiking via Marangu Route with us
